YMCA Football Combine

YMCA Combine

For the players, a combine is football’s decathlon where they compete against the clock. A football combine lets players show off their natural athletic ability with specific timed/measured events such as the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, shuttle, etc.  One of the main reasons to attend a football combine is to get measurable information about your skills.  Combines can provide good, quantifiable information about your athletic ability, which can help you see how you measure up against other players. Knowing what you need to improve on can help you when competing against other athletes.

Combine Date: Aug 12
Combine Location: Dwight Merckel
Combine Time: 9 am - 1pm

Combine Events
1.  40-yard dash

Starting from a stationary position, players' 40 times give an indication of their speed from a stand-still.

2. 20-yard shuttle

Participants stand at the starting line with a cone five yards away on both sides. Players sprint to a cone on one side, then sprint 10 yards to the opposite cone before running back to the initial starting point.

3. Vertical jump

While the actual results of vertical jumps shows how high players can leap, that’s really only valuable for wide receivers and their jump-ball ability. The vertical, however, is perhaps the best test of raw explosiveness at the Combine.

4. Broad jump

Starting from a standing position, players can only swing their arms to generate force from a flat-footed position.  In addition to showing raw explosiveness, this drill displays a prospect's hip flexibility and balance.

5.  3 cone drill

The 3-cone drill (also called the L-drill) is the change of direction workout. With cones positioned in the shape of an L and five yards apart, prospects sprint to the second cone, bend to the third cone, weave around the third and finish the L back at the starting position.

Combine Fee: $10
